Choice
”Choice” is the last of the ring series that I began in 2014. These rings are meditations of whatever my mind and heart were processing in the moment. During the time I began “Choice”, I had to decide whether I was willing to commit my future to my partner and his two children. I had always wanted my own children, but was in the process of letting that go while also considering, can I accept these children as my own? I had to consider how much of my desire to be a mother was truly my own and how much came from societal or family pressure. And perhaps the biggest question was, can I both be a mother and artist and share my heart fully to both. By the time “Choice” was completed, I came to realize that my art is not separate from the love that I give as a mother - they feed each other, in fact. Women often feel like they have to choose their work over family or vice versa. The biggest challenge is taking down the barrier between the two.
