Father
Father is a meditation of time, space and cohesion. The layers of cloth (including ties, hospital scrubs and sweaters) are taken from my partner who is father of two children. After moving in together at the start of 2018, it was inevitable that I would observe his joys and frustrations as a father and simultaneously think of my own ideas of “fatherhood”. How do men make decisions on the path to becoming a father? How are these choices affected by societal expectation and restriction? And how can all these layers come together to embrace fatherhood? The cloth represents the choices and the gold wire holds time and choices together with sensitivity and beauty.
Father was selected from over 400 pieces for Cerulean Arts’ 7th Annual Juried Exhibition.
Materials: Fabric, Cloth, Steel, Textile, Recycled, Reclaimed
Width: 25 inches
Height: 25 inches
Depth: 3 inches
