Patriarch

Patriarch is a meditation of time, space and cohesion. The layers of cloth (including ties, hospital scrubs and sweaters) are taken from a friend, who is both husband and father. I observed their joys and frustrations as a father, and simultaneously considered my own ideas of “fatherhood” when making this piece. How does one make decisions, or indecisions, on the path to becoming a father? How are these choices affected by societal expectation and restriction? And how can all these layers come together to embrace fatherhood? The cloth represents the choices and the gold wire holds time and choices together with sensitivity and beauty.
